MBS College Website
The official website for Mahant Bachittar Singh College of Engineering & Technology — admissions, departments, placements, and the everyday information a student actually needs.
Stack Next.js · TypeScript · Tailwind CSS · Static export
A college website has an impossible audience: prospective students, current students, parents, faculty, recruiters, and the one person in the administration who needs the academic calendar before lunch. Most college sites solve this by adding a link to every possible thing and calling it navigation.
This one starts from the questions people actually arrive with. Can I get in? What does it cost? What is the placement record? Where do I find the timetable? Who do I call? The homepage answers the first four, and the navigation is organised by audience rather than by the internal org chart.
The interface
The visual language is built from the campus itself: the red brick, the long avenue, the yellow of the college mark. The type is large enough to read on a phone in a corridor. The photography is allowed to carry the atmosphere instead of being cropped into decorative strips.
The admissions section is the most important one. It is a sequence, not a page: eligibility, dates, documents, fees, contact. Each step has a short answer and a path to the full detail. The inquiry form is available at every step, but it never blocks the information.
The build
Next.js 16 with the App Router, Tailwind CSS v4, and a static export. There is no database and no CMS runtime. The content is typed in, versioned in Git, and built once. That trade keeps the site fast and cheap to host, which matters for an institution that should be spending its budget on students.
TIP
The most visited page on a college site is usually the one with the exam schedule. Design for the returning student, not just the prospective one.
What I would keep
The department pages. Each one has the same spine — overview, faculty, labs, curriculum, contact — so a student can move between departments without relearning the layout. Consistency is not boring when the content is already complicated.
